LPG, when used correctly is safe and can provide energy domestically,

industrially and with autogas in vehicles. It is your responsibility as

LPG owner and consumer to make sure that your staff understands

and respects the dangers involved when using LPG in the work place.

Here are some handy safety tips in all areas of expertise to make your LPG experience a safe and happy one:

Cylinders in the work area:

Restaurants - Commercial

•Do not store LPG cylinders in enclosed cabinets. Keep them away from electrical points and other sources of ignition.

•Use only LPG-resistant rubber hoses and regularly check for wear, cracks and leaks by applying soap from a sponge on the entire hose, especially on the clamps / connections. Don’t use a match, candle or any open light when checking for leaks.

•If you smell a leaking gas in an enclosed area, do not switch on/off or connect/disconnect electrical plugs. Turn off your LPG regulator and open doors and windows to improve ventilation.

•When not in use, always turn off both the stove burner and LPG regulator. Do not invert the lpg cylinder or let it lie horizontally on the floor.

Production: Industrial: Gas Welding & Body Spraying

• To lift up gas cylinders, use the LPG equipments that are designed to perform that task.
• Check torches and clean only using suitable tools.
• While welding use blowback guard torches.
• Always keep a watch on the LPG equipment and fix any leakages at all connections.
• Check hoses for worn and leaks spots.
• Keep fire extinguishers at handy places, at the welding site.
• Keep cylinders and hoses away from flames, sparks, to avoid any holes on it.
• Use a flint lighter to fire the flame in welder.

Autogas:

Autogas, like Petrol, requires some basic precautions when filling up:

  • Stop Engine
  • No Mobile Phones
  • No Smoking
  • Avoid skin contact
  • Do not Overfill the tank

Additional Tips:

Ensure that workers are trained and competent regarding the risks of LPG spillage, leakage and ignition. It is recommended that staff are trained in the emergency arrangements in the event of fire or uncontrolled release of LPG, including First Aid lessons in Burns and Cold Burns.

Be aware of the locations of the LPG tank and fuel lines. Bulgaz will inspect the site before installation to ensure the safest position for your LPG tank.

We recommend that vehicles are parked in safe places for parking and working on vehicles, e.g. away from drains, pits and other openings in the ground, and all sources of ignition .

DO clearly identify vehicles, e.g. with suitably positioned signs, as a reminder to people working on them, especially those who may be carrying out 'hot work' .

Bulgaz advises that users wear protective equipment (PPE) to prevent cold burns, eye damage and the discharge of static electricity whenever there is a risk of a release of LPG .

Make sure that the vehicle battery is disconnected when any part or all of the LPG system is to be removed. Always check re-assembled systems for leaks.

Store LPG fuel tanks which have not been emptied and gas-freed in a safe place, preferably in the open air.

It is vital that one carries out a roadside check for leaks and other damage to the LPG system on vehicles involved in accidents.
